Ken, Panelist
What’s a fun fact about you?
I saw Skylab launch with my dad… who helped build it.
What’s your favorite Star Trek series?
TOS - it was the show I was raised on and remember watching with my dad and granddad. It’s a family thing.
Do you have a favorite Star Trek Captain?
Kirk. See above.
How about a favorite character who isn’t a Captain?
McCoy. Because I like to help people feel better about themselves when I can.
What is your comfort episode?
Tomorrow is Yesterday. Best cold open in the entire franchise. And I loved the idea of the Enterprise back in time. Plus, a sassy computer.
What episode would you show someone to get them into Trek?
The Doomsday Machine: action adventure story. Harkens to Moby Dick. One of the best scenes ever: “… if I only had some phasers.” And one of the best in-episode cliffhangers ever: “… gentlemen, I suggest you beam me aboard.”
What was your first contact with Star Trek?
Pretty sure it was an episode of TAS on Saturday morning when I was 5. And then was told by my dad that it was a live action show first. We watched one together - don’t remember which one- and I was hooked.
What's your favorite Trek-spiracy? (head canon or fan theory, etc)
Cheers is a holosuite program created by that lovable scamp Morn. He even named one of the main characters after himself.
What’s your favorite Trek “Beta Canon”? Books, Games, etc.
Two. Both from Peter David’s books. One, Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Dehner got their powers when the galactic barrier wrecked havok with the Q continuum. And two, the Doomsday Machine was built to combat the Borg.
If you were in the Trek universe, what era, and what would your role be (in or out of Starfleet)?
TOS. An Ambassador. But not one of the crazy ones.
What class of ship would you want to serve on?
Constitution class. Of course. No bloody A, B, C or D (or E, or F, or G).
